Nordic Walking

If you’re looking for a fun, effective, social way to shape up and improve your fitness that doesn’t involve signing up for expensive gym memberships, or require costly equipment and specialised clothes, then look no further....

In fact, the chances are that you are probably already half way there. This exercise will lift your mood as well as your bottom. No tricky moves. This tried and tested fitness technique will soon have you on pole position, looking sleeker, feeling fitter and shedding those unwanted inches. This exercise will not only protect your joints but will also reduce the risks of high blood pressure, osteoporosis, diabetes and much more.

We’re talking Nordic Walking, a development of an activity that the majority of us can do - walking. Nordic Walking mimics the movements of cross country skiing, which is the toughest, most calorie-burning exercise there is and gives you the fullest range of movement of any sport. It utilises 90 per cent of the body’s muscles. The introduction of two poles ensure that the upper body is given a workout too, unlike normal walking or running which involves little upper body movement. It tones the arms, particularly the triceps (or 'bingo wings'), chest and waist, as well as legs and it will burn over 40% more energy than ordinary walking....and the best will feel easier than normal walking!!

Nordic walking originates from Scandinavia where it has been practised for decades but has only recently caught on in the UK.
